Subcontract Manufacturing

Your business success depends on your ability to find strong partners, including suppliers of manufacturing services.

P&H’s manufacturing facility in Milwaukee has been a leading manufacturer of components and equipment for a variety of industries since 1884. The Milwaukee facility, along with manufacturing facilities in the western U.S., Australia and South America stand ready to be your strong partner in the area of subcontract manufacturing service support.

We Start by Listening
We make sure we understand your requirements for quality, delivery and overall value - and then we deliver on those requirements. We have the resources, the systems, and the disciplined processes to deliver the manufacturing support value you require to meet your customers’ needs.

Safety Commitment
Our ability to meet your requirements depends on our ability to work safely. P&H manufacturing operations have a strong emphasis on safety, and we are focused on achieving zero lost-time accidents. Our safety record in recent years has outpaced most most manufacturers.

Quality Focus
You must have confidence that your supplier fully understands and can deliver your quality requirements. P&H applies Total Quality Management throughout our operations, and we have been registered to ISO 9001 since 1991 by Underwriters Laboratories. Moreover, quality reliability is reinforced with such in-house resources as a coordinate measuring machine (CMM) for machine set-up verification and a tooling calibration lab.

Process Management
To effectively manage the process of manufacturing your equipment, P&H uses SAP business management systems. Moreover, because delivery reliability is so important, we are engaged in strategic supplier alliances to help ensure timely delivery of your custom-manufactured products.

Modern Equipment
Since 1987 more than $100 million has been invested in plant, process and equipment improvements - advancements that will help us meet your needs for quality products with timely delivery. Our focus is on meeting your requirements now and in the future with modern, well-maintained tooling and equipment.

Our manufacturing operations concentrate on four core competencies:

  • Large Machining
    • Staffed by highly skilled craftsmen and equipped with a formidable array of computer-controlled machine tools, our machine shop specializes in gearing technology.

    • P&H has long been at the cutting edge of gear manufacturing. We were among the first to fabricate gears instead of casting them, and we began grinding our own gears in 1952 - long before other manufacturers.

  • Large Weldments / Heavy Fabrication
    • Welding is an art in the shop where our experience in this important manufacturing discipline traces back to 1930.

    • Our welders are certified to American Welding Society standards - a key factor in the rugged and reliable reputation of P&H shovels, drills and draglines deployed the world over.

    • Much of our welding equipment is automatic, enabling us to produce better welds, greater penetration and higher efficiency. Our welding process capabilities include:
      • Submerged arc welding (SAW)
      • Flux cored arc welding (FCAW) .045 to 3/32 electrode
      • Gas metal arc welding (GMAW)

  • Heat Treat
    • A well-equipped and modern heat treat operation is available. Refined hardening techniques are used to bring metals, primarily gears, to ideal hardness and ductility for optimal performance depending on the application…
      • Deep carburizing for low carbon alloy parts
      • Induction hardening for uniform strength
      • Molten salt bath hardening for certain outer rims

The resources, systems and manufacturing discipline that we applied to make all quality P&H products are available to manufacture YOUR unique products to YOUR requirements.
